Another model on display in the Pandora Inn

There’s apparently another model (a different one) of the Pandora (frigate b t w !) on display in the Pandora Inn in Mylor (near Falmouth, Cornwall) I’ve sent a question in a comment to the Falmouth Packet enquiring where the ‘old one’  got to.

  1. The model you saw last year was a modern copy of the original model. The original model has now been returned to the Pandora and takes pride of place on the ground floor. The copy is now housed upstairs in the dining room!

Do you have any information regarding the maker of the original Pandora model. It has been handed down within our family that my great great grandfather made the model ship which was displayed at the public house in Falmouth called the “Ship”. He was called John Seccombe, a master carpenter and shipbuilder born in Falmouth. There is another model (not of a ship) made by John Seccombe which is in a London Museum.

      Hi Carole-Anne

Regret that I can’t help re information on the maker of the model — by the look of it, it is probably several centuries old, so it may be a yard model; in which case it was probably built in Deptford (ca 1779 by someone employed at Barnard’s (Adams & Dudman were partners) Grove St Yard — but it is hard to tell, having only ever seen it in a glass case.

      best wishes

Thank you for your reply, as my ancestor died in London it looks quite possible that this piece of family history may be accurate.

        Kind regards

        Carole-Ann
